The cooperative adventure game Big Walk developed by House House and published by Panic has achieved a remarkable milestone. In just six days since its launch on August 4, 2026 the game has sold over one million copies across PS5PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Nintendo Switch 2. This impressive feat underscores the game’s widespread appeal and the enthusiasm of its player base.
The game’s success is further amplified by its inclusion in the PlayStation Plus Essential lineup for August 2026, which likely contributed to its rapid sales.
The Essence of Big Walk
Big Walk is a cooperative multiplayer adventure that emphasizes teamwork and communication. Players, ranging from two to twelve, explore vast environments inspired by Wilsons Prom National Park on the south-east coast of Australia. The game’s unique mechanics, including proximity voice chat, gestures, and various tools like walkie-talkies and binoculars, create a dynamic and engaging experience.
The game’s developers, House House have a proven track record with successful titles like Untitled Goose Game and Push Me Pull You. Their latest creation, Big Walk has received critical acclaim and boasts a 92% positive rating on Steam based on over 9,000 user reviews. This positive reception highlights the game’s ability to captivate both critics and players alike.
A Journey of Collaboration and Discovery
At the heart of Big Walk is the concept of collaboration. Players must work together to navigate the open world, solve environmental puzzles, and reach their destination. The game’s proximity voice chat system adds a layer of realism, allowing voices to fade across distances, echo down corridors, and muffle through walls. This feature enhances the sense of immersion and teamwork.
In addition to the core gameplay, Big Walk offers a variety of tools and toys that players can use to communicate and interact with each other. These include walkie-talkies, laser pointers, megaphones, and even a big golden head. The game’s flexible player count allows for both focused co-op experiences with just two players and chaotic, fun-filled adventures with up to twelve players.
The game also features cross-platform play, enabling friends to join in the adventure regardless of their preferred gaming platform. This inclusivity has likely contributed to the game’s widespread popularity and rapid sales.
The Creative Vision Behind Big Walk
The development of Big Walk began during the COVID-19 lockdown as a small prototype to explore online multiplayer dynamics. What started as a proof-of-concept evolved into a full-fledged game that captures the essence of playing with friends online. Stuart Gillespie-Cook of House House explained, “Big Walk is our attempt to capture our favourite parts of playing games together online. We started working on it during COVID lockdown, when that was often the main way we’d spend time with each other.”
Jake Strasser also of House House shared the team’s journey with the game: “When we started working on Big Walk in 2026, we thought we were making a small, proof-of-concept prototype. We figured we’d spend a few months making this thing; figure out the basics; and then move on to our Big Ambitious Game. But we just kept having so much fun playing it that we didn’t want to stop working on it.”
The game’s soundtrack, composed by AKSFX features two hours of original music split into various “radio stations,” adding to the immersive experience. The soundtrack is available on popular streaming platforms, further enhancing the game’s appeal.
Big Walk is a testament to the power of collaboration and the joy of shared experiences. Its rapid success and positive reception underscore its unique charm and the creativity of its developers. As players continue to explore its vast world and engage in cooperative adventures, the game’s legacy is sure to grow.
