Celebrate international football with The world’s game update for EA SPORTS FC 26

The latest seasonal update for EA SPORTS FC 26 centers on international competition and fresh choices for Ultimate Team. The World’s Game Update introduces a standalone 48-team tournament, expands national team licensing across modes, and layers international content into Football Ultimate Team. Alongside new gameplay balancing and PlayStyles adjustments, the update includes a Festival of Football program with token-based rewards, Evolutions changes, new ICONs, and a roster of weekly campaigns designed to mirror the summer’s global fixtures.

The update preserves authentic tournament structure and competitive rules while giving players expanded control over squad construction and reward progression. Expect new stadiums, national team additions, and integrations with Career and Kick Off modes. The Festival of Football in FUT adds an Event Hub, tokens as the primary reward currency, and a sequence of themed campaigns and player drops that run across the season.

New international tournament: format and teams

The centerpiece is a standalone 48-team international competition that follows a familiar group-to-knockout journey. Each side plays three group matches with the top two teams from each group advancing, joined by the eight best third-placed teams. Knockout rounds begin with a round of 32 and continue until a final decides the champion. The mode includes 53 fully licensed national teams in total, with 41 of those featured in the summer program. Players can represent established football powers or select rising nations to craft fresh narratives.

Match rules, tie-breakers, and fair play tie-break conditions are implemented to mirror tournament conventions: points determine initial placement, followed by head-to-head metrics, goal statistics, and finally fair play points where cautions and sendings-off affect standings. This preserves realism while allowing managers to shape outcomes across group and knockout phases. Additionally, the mode includes stadiums recreated for international atmospheres such as Gillette Stadium and BMO Field, plus Central Maw, a new venue built to capture top-tier international matchday energy.

Football Ultimate Team: Festival of Football and Tokens

The update transforms FUT’s summer offerings by introducing a Festival of Football season. The centerpiece is a token economy: Festival of Football Tokens become the principal weekly reward currency, earned across multiple modes including Rivals, Squad Battles, Live Events, Select Objectives, and certain SBCs. Token caps are set to 1,000 per week (5,000 total across the Festival), offering predictable progression while encouraging players to choose how they invest play time. Tokens are not sold in packs and are redeemable in a dedicated Festival store for players, packs, Evolutions, and club cosmetics.

The token store mixes low-cost weekly refreshes with season-persistent premium rewards that require longer commitments. Lower-tier items (up to 300 tokens) can be claimed quickly, mid-tier rewards (up to 1,000 tokens) may need multiple play sessions, and the largest items (up to 2,500 tokens) demand season-long effort. This structure is intended to balance accessibility and long-term goals and will be refined based on community feedback.

FUT Champions and token integration

Alongside Festival tokens, FUT Champions receives its own token variant: FUT Champions Tokens. These allow players who compete on weekends to select their rewards incrementally or save tokens across weekends for larger items. Higher finishes still grant additional coins and extra incentives, but Champions Tokens add flexibility to how players value each weekend’s results.

Evolutions, PlayStyles, and new player content

To reduce choice friction and encourage experimentation, the update adds an Evo Undo feature that lets players fully reset Evolutions in-club. Tradable player status is restored when an originally tradable item is reset. The Festival introduces a new PlayStyles Lab where selected PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ can be applied to special Festival items, and a new item type, Evo Repeatables, allows additional Evolution entries through gameplay rewards.

Festival programming also includes multiple campaigns: Path to Glory, Greats of the Game, Glory Hunters, Phenoms, and Summer Stars. Over 100 international player items will join the FUT pool, and two new ICONs—Rivellino and Mario Kempes—debut with special versions before entering the wider packs. A login window rewards a 93 OVR Festival of Football ICON Pelé plus three Choose Your Journey Evolutions for players who participate during the event.

Gameplay balance and PlayStyles adjustments

Several PlayStyles have been tuned to address community feedback. Bruiser and Bruiser+ had their shoulder challenge boost reduced and now better reflect the relative Strength and PlayStyle advantage between players. Improvements include smarter detection for challenges from behind and refined stumble outcomes. The Intercept PlayStyle now shares certain animations with high-attribute players who lack the PlayStyle but have a 90+ Interceptions rating. Team Press AI behavior has also been softened in the defensive half to encourage tactical variety and reduce overuse.

Career and Kick Off integrations

The International Men’s Tournament is mirrored in Career mode with the same structure and rules, plus additional national teams available when starting a new save. New Live Starting Points allow managers to begin just before the international competition, and Career objectives have been updated to include national team play. Weekly manager Live Challenges and Festival-themed ICONs and Heroes provide fresh long-term goals for career players.

Overall, The World’s Game Update aims to bring international football’s drama into multiple EA SPORTS FC 26 modes, expand player choice with tokens and Evo systems, and refine gameplay with targeted PlayStyles and AI changes. Community feedback will continue to guide balance and feature evolution as the Festival runs through the summer events.
