After reviewing numerous color swatches, the owner chose Ode to Toad from COAT and Almond White from Dulux. Morning sunlight illuminated the office, calling for warm undertones to foster an inviting atmosphere.
Ode to Toad, a nostalgic olive green, was used for the skirting, door, desk, and shelf. In contrast, the walls were adorned in the soft, creamy hue of Almond White, which complements wood beautifully while ensuring a bright, contemporary feel.
Revamping the desk and storage solutions
Many inquiries about the desk’s origin led to a story of discovery. The tabletop was sourced from eBay in 2025 for approximately £50, while the frame was purchased from Amazon. Although the dark wood initially appealed, it clashed with the overall aesthetic. After several attempts at whitewashing the tabletop yielded unsatisfactory results, a new approach was needed. The owner decided to paint the tabletop the same color as the skirting boards using leftover paint designed for wood, resulting in a remarkable transformation.
Encouraged by this success, the same treatment was applied to the shelf, which harmonized beautifully with the rest of the room once the tabletop was reattached.
Finding the right storage
Initial skepticism surrounded the fit of old shelving units in the new space. Despite their previous dominance, they felt overwhelming in the new setup. Within a day, the decision was made to sell them on Facebook Marketplace, paving the way for more suitable storage solutions.
A tall boy from Oak Furniture Land was selected for its quality and longevity, akin to the desk. Finding aesthetically pleasing drawers that could accommodate a PC tower became a design challenge worth pursuing.
Elevating the ambiance
A standout addition to the gaming room was the wood panels, which had long been a desire. Sourced from WoodUpp, the Akupanel | 240 in Classic Oak with Black Felt backing made from recycled materials proved to be an exceptional choice. Although the panel was taller than anticipated, adjustments were made to accommodate its presence. With a little help, the gap left by measurements was cleverly concealed with a plant.
