Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs finally appear in Steam hardware survey

Nvidia's RTX 50 GPUs have emerged in Steam's hardware survey, signaling important trends in gaming technology.

Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs make their debut

After a few months of relative silence following their launch, Nvidia’s RTX 50 series graphics cards have finally made an appearance in the latest Steam hardware survey. Conducted in April, this survey gathers data from millions of users on the platform, and the arrival of the RTX 50 series has been eagerly anticipated. Despite being released four months ago, their adoption rate remains low, with no models ranking among the top GPUs.

AMD’s RX 9000 series still absent

Similarly, AMD’s RX 9000 series graphics cards have yet to show up in the survey results, despite the buzz surrounding potential buyers. This absence raises questions about possible supply chain issues or production delays that could have affected their rollout. As Nvidia continues to dominate the GPU market, boasting a significant market share, AMD seems to be struggling to keep pace with consumer demand.

Nvidia’s market dominance

Nvidia currently holds a commanding 74.39% share of the GPU market, while Intel leads the CPU sector with 60.35%, closely followed by AMD. In the recent Steam hardware survey, several new Nvidia GPUs have started to gain traction among gamers. The RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 have all made their mark, holding market shares of 0.38%, 0.28%, and 0.38%, respectively. While these percentages may appear modest at first glance, they represent substantial numbers given Steam’s extensive user base.

The absence of the RTX 5090

Notably, the RTX 5090, Nvidia’s most expensive graphics card to date, is missing from the list. Its high price point makes it less appealing to the average user. Additionally, the absence of AMD’s RX 9070 GPUs is significant, as this series was expected to be one of the company’s most successful launches. Despite this, Nvidia continues to lead the pack, even in the face of various challenges this generation has presented.

AMD’s RX 7800 XT makes a modest showing

The only new AMD GPU to appear in the hardware survey is the RX 7800 XT, which holds a share of 0.27%. This figure is on par with the RTX 5070 Ti, indicating that while AMD has made some progress, it still lags behind Nvidia’s offerings. Other AMD models, including the RX 7900 XT, 7900 GRE, 7600 XT, and 7600, have not surfaced in the survey results, alongside most Intel Arc GPUs, which have struggled to gain traction despite their competitive pricing.

Most popular GPUs among gamers

Interestingly, the most utilized GPU according to the survey is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop, followed closely by the RTX 3060 and RTX 4060 for desktop users. These statistics not only reflect current market trends but also highlight the preferences of gamers navigating the ever-evolving landscape of graphics technology.
