Gearbox Software has announced the next major content update for Borderlands 4 set to launch on September 10. The DLC Story Pack 2 titled FL4K and the Last Resort will bring back the fan-favorite Vault Hunter FL4K and introduce a new character, Loveless the Hacker. This update follows the release of the first story pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned which debuted in.
The announcement comes amidst a mix of praise and criticism for Borderlands 4’s DLC strategy. While the first story pack was generally well-received, some players expressed concerns about the price-to-playtime ratio. The upcoming DLC aims to address these concerns by offering a richer experience with new maps, missions, and gear.
FL4K’s Return and the Search for Mr. Chew
FL4K, known as the Beastmaster, first appeared in Borderlands 3 and quickly became a fan favorite due to his unique pet mechanics. In Borderlands 4, FL4K will embark on a new adventure to find his missing pet Skag, Mr. Chew. The teaser trailer for the DLC shows FL4K and the new Vault Hunter, Loveless, exploring Kairos in search of Mr. Chew.
Despite FL4K’s return, he will not be playable in this DLC. Instead, players will get to try out Loveless the Hacker, the sixth and final Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4. Loveless is a cyborg and former Anshin hacker who has implanted a digital virus within her mind, allowing her to digistruct into a physical form similar to Zane’s Digi-Clone skill from Borderlands 3.
New Content and Rewards
The DLC Story Pack 2 will introduce a new map zone, a major boss fight, and a variety of new Legendary and Pearlescent weapons. Additionally, the update will include new side missions, collectibles, and themed gear inspired by the volcanic tropical island setting.
Before the September 10 release, players can look forward to Bounty Pack 4: Murders and Acquisitions set to launch on July 30. This pack will feature a new mission, bosses, and cosmetic options for Vault Hunters, vehicles, and ECHO drones. It will also introduce Vault Card 4, which offers a choice mechanic that impacts the story’s outcome.
Toxic Grim and Faction Plot
Bounty Pack 4 will take players to Toxic Grim, a polluted desert canyon inhabited by two warring Ripper factions: the pacifist Pack commune and the aggressive Blasphemers. Players will assist Levine, the leader of the Electi faction, in resolving the conflict. The mission’s outcome will depend on dialogue choices and actions, affecting combat scenarios, ally composition, and character lines.
Pearlescent Weapons and Legendary Rewards
Completing the mission and defeating the final boss will reward players with one new Pearlescent Weapon and six Legendary pieces of equipment. These weapons and gear are designed to revolutionize builds and outperform many base-game counterparts. Additionally, completing the storyline unlocks Vault Hunter skins, a new vehicle, and ECHO-4 drone skins.
The Future of Borderlands 4
With the release of DLC Story Pack 2 and Bounty Pack 4, Gearbox Software continues to expand the world of Borderlands 4. The community’s excitement is palpable, especially with the return of FL4K and the introduction of Loveless the Hacker. As players prepare for these updates, they can also look forward to future content, including Bounty Pack 5, which is rumored to be released alongside the second story pack.
Borderlands 4 is available on PS5XBOX Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Both expansions can be purchased separately or as part of the Season Pass. As Gearbox continues to deliver new content, players are encouraged to level up and prepare for the challenges ahead.
