PlayStation Plus continues its monthly tradition by releasing three brand-new titles for subscribers in the United Kingdom, United States and Japan. The titles are available immediately for both PS5 and PS4 owners who hold an Extra or Premium tier subscription. While the rollout in these three regions is staggered, the games are already live elsewhere, meaning the global library has expanded without delay.
September 2026 free games: what you get today
The September batch features a blend of classic-style action, indie charm and World War II shooting. First up is Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound a side-scrolling homage to the franchise’s 90s roots. Developed by The Game Kitchen, the game delivers pixel-art visuals, demanding platforming sections and brutal boss encounters. Critics have praised its difficulty curve, awarding it an 84 on Metacritic and a solid 7/10 in our own review.
Next, Dungeons of Hinterberg offers a colourful, cel-shaded adventure that feels like a modern take on classic action-RPGs. Curve Games blends puzzle-solving, monster combat and a comic-book aesthetic, earning an 80 Metacritic score and an 8/10 from us. The title shines for players who love exploration and a hint of nostalgia.
The third addition, Sniper Elite: Resistance shifts the focus to tactical shooting set during the latter stages of World II. Developed by Rebellion, the game emphasizes stealth, long-range kills and the series-signature X-ray kill cam. Although it carries the lowest Metacritic rating of the trio (70), the experience remains satisfying for fans of cinematic shooters.
October 2026 lineup: racing, horror and voxel mayhem
Starting on 6 October, PlayStation Plus members will gain access to three new titles that cater to very different tastes. The headline act is F1 25 the official simulation of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship. The game features a revamped career mode, a “My Team 2.0” system that lets players run their own squad and a fresh multiplayer “F1 World” mode where friends can form a team to race against AI opponents.
For players craving a darker atmosphere, Hunt: Showdown 1896 arrives as an expansion of Crytek’s extraction shooter. Set in a grim, alternate-history 1896, the game pits hunters against supernatural monsters and rival players. The core loop revolves around locating a powerful boss, defeating it, and then surviving the extraction phase—whether solo or with up to two allies.
The final entry, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 leans into arcade-style chaos with voxel-styled graphics. This spin-off lets you assemble a four-member squad from characters across the EDF franchise, customize equipment, and face waves of giant enemies. The title runs natively on both PS5 and PS4, offering four-player online co-op and two-player split-screen.
Bonus content: avatars and seasonal packs
Alongside the game drops, Sony is distributing a set of limited-edition avatars based on the upcoming movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Available on 6 October through the Sony Pictures Core platform, these avatars are free for PlayStation Plus members and can be claimed directly in the app.
To celebrate the Halloween season, PlayStation Plus also released several horror-themed in-game bundles. The Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle launched on 1 October, followed by a Hunt: Showdown 1896 Starter Pack on 6 October and an Overwatch 2 Dragur Reinhardt + 5 Tier Skips Pack** on 7 October. These packs require ownership of the base games but add exclusive cosmetic items for a spooky flair.
Players who have not yet added the September titles must do so by 5 October, after which they will be replaced by the October lineup. The next announcement, concerning the Essential tier games for September, is expected on 30 September, with those titles becoming playable on 6 October.
