The The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 bringing the classic RPG to a new generation of players. However, the launch wasn’t without its hiccups. The game has now received its first major update, patch 1.0 addressing a wide array of issues that plagued the initial release.
Bethesda, the developer behind the game, has confirmed that the patch includes optimizations for all platforms, ensuring a smoother experience for players on PS5Xbox Series X|SPC and now the Switch 2. The update focuses on fixing crashes, performance issues, and various bugs that players encountered during gameplay.
Crashes and Performance Fixes
The patch addresses numerous crashes that occurred during various quests and interactions within the game. For instance, crashes during the Light the Dragonfires quest animation scene and when opening the player menu outside the Castle Bravil gate have been resolved. Additionally, crashes when loading quicksaves after luring Spider Daedra outside of the Vorondo Ayleid Ruins and when purchasing all available spells from a mage vendor are now fixed.
Performance issues have also been tackled. The patch fixes a hang when fast-travelling from any city interior and crashes when transitioning from the Castle Chorrol Great Hall to the exterior while in combat with guards. Players will no longer experience crashes when running or sprinting in the Nibenay Valley or The West Weald and the issue during the The Cold Flame of Agnon quest has been resolved.
Gameplay and Visual Improvements
The update includes several gameplay improvements. For example, the issue where players became paralyzed by Spore Pod traps inside the Shivering Isles dungeons, pushing them out-of-world, has been fixed. The Storm Atronach dying animation now plays correctly, and dropped items no longer appear behind the player instead of in front of them.
Visual improvements are also part of the patch. Stretched textures on hanging ropes and skulls during swinging animations have been corrected, and flickering banner textures on Chorrol’s stone entry gates at certain angles are no longer present. The issue with incorrect texture loading on rock formations outside of the Kvatch gate has been resolved, and water surfaces now render correctly within the secret wing at Silorn.
User Interface and Controls
The patch also addresses several user interface and controls issues. For instance, the problem where pressing the A and X buttons while hovering over the Load option prevented players from loading a game has been fixed. Missing prompts to collect ingredients from Aster Bloom plants and Blackberry bushes are now displayed correctly.
Control issues have been resolved as well. Aiming with a bow no longer causes jitteriness during vertical movement of motion controls, and the Relative Zoom Sensitivity settings are now applied correctly. The patch also fixes the issue where swapping between Joy-ConMouse Mode and controller could cause the Right StickZR and R buttons to stop functioning.
The The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered patch 1.0 for the Nintendo Switch 2 is a significant step towards improving the game’s stability and performance. With these fixes, players can now enjoy a smoother and more immersive experience in the world of Tamriel.
